Why Auckland Foundation?
Auckland Foundation enables impactful giving by generous Aucklanders.
We envisage a future where every Tāmaki Makaurau community is strong and thriving.
By making it easy for donors to support causes they care about, we want to inspire and unlock a movement of impactful giving by generous Aucklanders.
Through our efficient governance and administration services, donors create and direct funds with freedom to focus on the transformation they want to create in areas they care about.
We look forward to connecting with you to simplify your giving, shape your impact and create your legacy.
Our story
We were established in 2010 as the community foundation for Auckland.
Support from The Tindall Foundation gave Auckland one of its first funds: the Grassroots Giving Programme, which to date has distributed almost $3.5 million to 287 small Auckland charities, and is one of 47 funds administered by us.
Many of our Funds are led and directed by a single donor, a family, or an organisation - each with its own unique mission and building a lasting endowment for Auckland and its communities.
We also administer three place-based funds that enable Aucklanders to collectively respond to major issues: the Hauraki Gulf Regeneration Fund, the Women’s Fund and the North Shore Fund.
What is a community foundation?
Community foundations are about place-based giving - giving back for the long-term benefit and enhancement of a place and its communities.
While community foundations have only been in Aotearoa New Zealand since 2003, the concept - pooling and investing charitable donations for the good of a local area - has been a growing global movement for over a hundred years.
Across the country, community foundations are here to help generous people like you make a lasting, transformative difference in our local communities.
